Mobcrush Seeded By Liongate, Others To Build A Twitch For Mobile

Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.LGF -0.94% and other investors are bankrolling a startup that live streams mobile games to enthusiasts who love watching “Minecraft” as much as others like watching football.

Founded just nine months ago, Mobcrush Inc. is one in a growing league of startups focusing on e-sports–and industry which gaming research firm Newzoo BV expects to reach $465 million by 2017.

Like Twitch, which attracts millions of viewers watching popular games including “League of Legends,” and “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive,” Mobcrush’s streaming technology enables live broadcasting, viewing and commenting. Unlike Twitch, which Amazon purchased for $970 million last year, and YouTube, Mobcrush is focused exclusively on mobile capture and viewing.

And unlike Kamcord Inc. and Raptr Inc., both of which allow mobile gamers to capture and share their top plays with friends, Mobcrush is focused on live streaming.
